Salam and Hi,
Hm awkward to update the blog. Kah! Many things to update in
fact have many lame stories. So lets the lame story paused it first. Hewhew.
Right now, I actually waiting for dry mee hoon to boil. Lol
Im always hungry. So, stealing lil time to update my blog as I promised because
there's a lot of thing I wanna share. Actually life has been so busy. I
still struggling on the assignments and my final year project. But still , life
is getting better tho. 6 weeks for new semester. Alhamdulillah. Nothing drastically
changed. I am still me. Maybe busier lil bit but it's fine. I'm getting used to
it. Yeayhh..
So lets we moveee.. What I gonna to share about? Of couse
foooddd. The
main purpose of our cuti-cuti Malaysia was "food hunting"! One of my favorite things about covering food is when I get to share people’s
fond memories and how they connect to a dish or a restaurant. I’m coming across
that a lot with my favourite Thai food story. Before I share my experience
about everything I eat during my semester break last 3 month ago, I want to ask
all of you, are you a foodie or foodaholic? If yesss, here are the right way
were you are.
Malaysian people are know the famous place of Padang Besar, which is located at Perlis and is one such country with a rich Thai food culture, which needs to be explored. Traveling with my family is the one of the things I wanna do most. Expectly a place that actually we want to visit the most. You know why? Because my parents was too busy. When I was younger the only holidays I had was being dropped off at my aunties house for 2 weeks and playing out with my cousins. Wehh sad life everrr. But it’s so okay. Going to aunties or grans or my cousins house was usually summertime when we went, so it felt even more like family vacations! Hahaha! And travelling with my family now is something I appreciate even more. When we get chance, we grab it. If we don’t get the chance, we build it. And make it happen with Allah’s will. But unfortunately, for this time I just make it with my mom only. My dad, brothers, my sister in law and younger sister are not joining us.
So, I’m making a thread of everything I’m eating and
drinking at Padang Besar, Perlis. This is a short trip to Padang Besar to hunt
for good local food with my mom. Mom
always dreaming to take train, so early in the morning at 7.00am we take the
train Kereta Api Tanah Melayu (KTM) Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang. I can see my mom face was very exited. The
ticketing were very kind and helpful. During peak hours, it’d be a full house.
So normally people talking to each other or eating and such. Soon, the paddy field started to appear at both side along
the road, which means that we were already entered Kedah. Along the way, there
is a rail road at our left side and we were very lucky as there was a train
with the colourful containers pass by us. The view that the colourful train
with the green paddy field was truly breath taking and I just cant take my eyes
off it. Too bad that my camera was put in my bag so I have missed the chance to
snap this beautiful view. Around 10.15am, we
have arrived safely in Padang Besar! What shall we do while we are here? What the best food you can find here? Here you
are..
Taraaaa.. PULUT AYAM or sticky rice and fried chicken in Padang Besar
right up on the border of Thailand and Malaysia at Selera Istimewa Gerai no9,
Arked Niaga, 7, Padang Besar, 02100 Padang Besar, Perlis. Open every day
10:00am to 6:00pm. Pulut ayam is a small serving of soft glutinous rice with
freshly fried onions and a piece of fried chicken. The chicken is fried only
when you order the dish so it arrives on the table hot and crispy. If you’re up
for dessert then try the equally amazing pulut mangga, where the same glutinous
rice comes accompanied with coconut milk and slices of warm mango. This stall owner is a couple who manage together, a kind aunt with a smile and her husband who is not a lot of words but nice person. The husband and wife team run the business together for more than 20 years, and Pulut Ayam and fried onion not only featured, but also have a colourful behind it. I just enjoy the moment while I'm here.
And guess what for the second dishes? I know it’s a bit early to be asking if you’ve got any favourites yet. But have you? When we talk about Thai food of course what in mind is a spicy dishes. Urmm yummy!
Guess what I had for early lunch – Tomyam! I’m a tomyam queen. Wants some really spicy tomyam for lunch, and I know just where to bring my mom. Actually, for your information I study perlis a long time ago. Mostly every weekend I come here with my friend to eat pulut ayam or spicy seafood tomyam. So I know what to decide the best lunch for us. We have ordered two mixed tomyam, a bowl of vegetable and a bowl of seafood. This meal altogether has costed us RM14.80, which is quite cheap actually. The tastes of the food was not bad at all and the seafood is recommended. Another thing to recommend is the spicy Som Tam (Thai papaya salad) sold by the Malay hawker outside the restaurant.Som Tam it is Thai green papaya salad with cucumber, tomatoes, dry roasted peanuts, bean sprouts, garlic, juice of 1 lime and Thai red chilies. Sometimes, instead the cucumber it can be carrot (with carrot is tastier). You can choose different kinds of Som Tam with shrimps, crab or vegetarian. I basically choose Spicy Som Tam with shrimps. Yummy! When I was in Perlis especially in the Padang Besar, I really enjoyed strolling down the atmospheric street between the stretch of traditional shop houses while hunting down the mouth-watering hawker and street food. Besause Padang Besar the best hang out for student in Perlis every weekend. Every time I visit Perlis, I will be so looking forward to discover new places for good food, also at the same time I will make an effort to go back to my favorite stalls again and again to get back the taste of yesterday.
Personally, I love cooling down my way with susu cincau ~~ ooooh heaven! Um! I LOVE the fact I can drink delicious 'susu cincau' WHILE getting the energy I need to chase my little loves around all day!
After this you can walk go to Arked Mall which is just opposite
food stall. Ahh mom very excited to walk in. Go shopping and we
walked around today because the weather is blessing. Tips to plan your trip :
check the weather. We basically didn't want to do much that day, so we walked
around the arked and explore. That's my kind of activity actually. Hewhew, we
loooooveeee people watching. It's just our way of seeing how people really live
differently, in different countries, different cultures, different climate (not really different with Malaysia because Thailand and Malaysia actually the same in everything).
It's super interesting to be there!
Some of info (not picture, picture is mine!) I just guuglee. So I just give kredit to : Sedap Baqhangg
